Q: Where is the best area to stay in and around Hiroshima?

A: It all depends on your priorities, but it is highly recommended you stay at one of the ryokan (Japanese-style traditional inns) or hotels on the island of Miyajima.  In the tranquility of the night, you can enjoy the illuminated Itsukushima Shrine and its Otorii Gate. Some accommodations there have a natural hot spring, too.  Here is a list of accommodations on the island.

If it is difficult to stay overnight on Miyajima Island, or if you would like to enjoy Hiroshima nightlife, we recommend you stay at a hotel in downtown Hiroshima.  If you are planning to use public transportation, you should find a hotel near JR Hiroshima station or a streetcar stop.  One of Hiroshima's nightlife districts is called Nagarekawa.   Kanayama-cho, Ebis-cho, and Hacchobori streetcar stops are all located within walking distance of the area.
